讲座内容:

This presentation will report the productionof two electrochemical sensors for the measurement of COD to be applied in twodifferent scenarios. On the one hand, a simple sample-in / answer-outelectrochemical sensor based on a Cu nanoparticle (NP) porous C nanocompositeactive material was fabricated by screen-printing technologies and could beapplied to perform discrete on-site measurements of this target parameter.  (Fig.1, top). The device incorporates a paper disk modified with an electrolytethat allows for sample pretreatment including filtration and pH adjustment. Thus, analytical measurements are completed by adding a drop of the samplewithout any further user intervention. The overall sensor fabrication processcan be mass-produced for cost-effective manufacturing. On the other hand, a CuNP-modified C/SiO2 thin-film electrochemical sensor fabricated by aphotolithographic approach on silicon substrates and integrated into a modularmicrofluidic system, is shown to be of potential use for the on-line continuousmonitoring of COD in water samples (Fig.1, bottom). The C/SiO2 electrodes can be produced at the waferlevel and show excellent electrochemical performance, demonstrating thescalability of the engineering process for industrial fabrication. Thepotential of the two electrochemical sensor approaches to analyze the organicload of urban wastewater is evaluated by analyzing three real samples coming froman urban wastewater treatment plant. The COD values obtained with the sensors are in very good agreement with the values measured using the standarddichromate method provided by an accredited laboratory. The two miniaturizedsensor platforms can facilitate rapid decentralized analysis for precisecontrol of municipal wastewater treatment.
